The Suit of Pentacles

The Earth is the element of the Pentacle cards. They are associated with the astrological signs of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. Pentacles are related to financial matters, money, resources, purchases - both goods and services, business organization, work, and with a person’s status. Large purchases and property matters are also under the Pentacles. Financial profit and losses are all indicated, whether they are money, goods or tangible assets. Tarot always advises one not to be greedy, materialistic, or selfish. One should always be generous towards others if possible.  

ACE OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

Aces always suggest that something is about to start. The Ace of the Pentacles suggests that your financial situation is about to improve. You will find a new source of income, or otherwise receive additional cash. This can mean winning money, or some other source of additional cash. This can also mean that you will receive a letter with excellent news about a money matter.  

Negative meaning:

The reverse of this card is almost the same as the positive, except for it means that the financial gain will not be sizable. Money is still coming, but not very much. Or, it can mean that the money you will receive will come later than you expect or want.

TWO OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

This card tells you that you will have enough money coming in to cover your bills and other obligations, but there won’t be much left over. Your money situation will be somewhat tight for a while, and you will have to watch your spending. In some readings I have seen this card come up to suggest a separation of resources, such as for example in a divorce or separation of business partners. One way or another, you will want to be careful with your spending for a while. Financial demands might sneak up on you, and you will struggle to find the energy, time, and funds to deal with everything.

Negative meaning:

This card is much the same either way up – however, there is a warning in this card in a reverse reading: Do not gamble or be reckless with money!

THREE OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

Good news in your work situation is on the way. You might get a new job offer, a raise, or new responsibilities in your present job. Other meaning of this card suggests some type of property matters. Often, this card relates to both, work situation and property, and in both cases, the news will be good. An increase in your income often leads to home improvements or a bigger home….you get the idea. Good news coming.  

Negative meaning:

The negative meaning of this card is almost the same as in a positive reading. However, you might experience some delays or problems in the work front. If you are planning or if you are in the process of renovating your home, expect delays and difficulties.

FOUR OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

When the Four of Pentacles comes up in a reading, it is good news. Your financial situation is improving in the near future. This card suggests long-term positive changes in your finances. However, you will need to be careful: This card warns you from becoming greedy, materialistic, and arrogant with your good fortune.  

Negative meaning;

This card reversed means that you will have some financial problems in the near future. Money will be tight, and cash flow is not what you would like for it to be. This is not permanent. Find things to do that don’t require much money and try not to get too stressed out.

FIVE OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

Five of Pentacles is not the best card to have in a reading. This card suggests financial loss and economic hardship. However, in most cases this card relates to the fear more than to the actual loss. You might be stressed out about something that might not happen. Are you looking for security in the wrong places? There is something good that this card brings to you: flirtation and light hearted affairs.  

Negative meaning:

When you get this card reversed, it suggests that your loss and loneliness will end soon. However, if you get greedy or make rushed decisions looking for fast gain, you will lose more than you can afford. This card reversed tells you to consider all options, gather all the information available, and think hard before you make decisions.

SIX OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

 Six of Pentacles suggest that you are likely to pay out money, clear your debts and other obligations to others. You will be in a position to repay your debtors in the near future. This card can mean a payment from somebody to you, or a return of a favor from someone. This card also suggests that you will be there to help others who are less fortunate.  Tarot always suggests helping others when possible.

Negative meaning:

If this card comes up reversed, it means that you will be in debt for a while longer. It suggests a shortage of funds in the near future. Be careful; do not let anyone pressure you to give away more money than you can afford.  Hold on to what you have.

SEVEN OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

If you are having difficulties at work, or if you are starting a business of your own, this card suggests that everything will work out for the best. However, nothing will happen overnight. It will take time to see the changes in your work situation, or the success in your business to take place. Be patient. The good times are coming, and your financial and work situations will improve. Do not give up. You are on the right path.  You will get where you want to be in the end. Set your long-term goals and stick with them.  

Negative meaning:

This card reversed in a reading suggests that, even though you have worked hard for a period of time, it will come to an end. Alternatively, you could come to the conclusion that all the hard work is not worth the effort. This is not a good time to take on big responsibilities or challenges.

Positive meaning:

This is a wonderful card to get in a reading if you are considering for a new job,  or seeking for a promotion in your current workplace. This card is also good news if you are planning to start or improve a business, or even to start a big project around the home. Hard work brings success, rewards and satisfaction.

Negative meaning:

There may be problems at work, and your present job may come to an end. Promotion is not in your near future. You will need to learn new skills and techniques, and work hard for any advancement. In some cases, the news is good but it will take time for you to achieve the success you seek.

Positive meaning:

Capital, success and wealth are on the way. This card also often suggests better living situation. If you are planning to move, or plan to improve your current home in some way, the outlook is good. Your financial situation will improve in the near future.  

Negative meaning:

Your financial situation will not improve. This card reversed suggests that your financial difficulties will continue for a while longer. It may take some time before you can find the home you want. This card can also suggest that you need to clear out some clutter before you move or refurbish your home.

Positive meaning:

Ten of Pentacles! Money, success, resources, and security are coming - in the near future. This card indicates financial and emotional security. The traditional meaning of this card is the start of a dynasty – suggesting that that whatever you start now will stand the test of time.

Negative meaning:

When this card comes up reversed, it still means that you will see success and money. However, it won’t be earth shattering. You might be receiving a gift, inheritance, or a bonus in the near future.

PAGE OF PENTACLES

Positive meaning:

Page cards often talk about young people, or even children. When you get Page of Pentacles in a reading, it suggests that the young person is quiet, somber, and humorless. This card suggests good news for this young person.

Other meaning can be news about money, business or travel, somehow connected to work. A raise can be on the way, or a promotion. A slight increase in your income is on the way.

Negative meaning:

There may be a small problem with a young, serious, and quiet person who is around you. Sometimes this card can also mean that you will experience a slight disappointment in financial matters or business. Nothing earth shattering.

Positive meaning:

Knights are often thought to be to be young men, but when you get the Knight of Pentacles, you shouldn’t be too strict about the age or gender of this person. He or She is careful with financial matters and business minded. This can also mean that a male brings you news about business or a money matter. This can also suggest travel somehow in connection with business. If you have this man as a lover, he is sincere and  trustworthy, but materialistic.  

Negative meaning:

 This card reversed in a reading often means that a male will cost you money or disappoint you regarding a business matter. Other meaning suggests problems related to work, business travel, or financial matters.

Positive meaning:

The Queen of Pentacles relates to a female, who is intelligent, good in business matters, reliable, honest and a skilled communicator and negotiator. It often suggests that this woman is used to high standards, is high maintenance, and demands a good standard of living. She gets those either through a marriage, or, if that doesn’t work out, then she will make a fortune herself.

Negative meaning:

This card reversed could suggest for you to be cautious; a female who is greedy, selfish, and money-minded might be trying to get more than her portion of money, possessions, time or energy from you. This card can also suggest that some extra expenses are coming up. However, you will still have time to enhance your situation.

Positive meaning:

King of Pentacles suggests a solid, professional male, who will help you and give you advise. This could mean an attorney, accountant, bookkeeper, or other professional. This person is old school, honest but somewhat too money oriented. This man is a good family person, reliable and trustworthy.  

Negative meaning:

This business oriented person may try to take advantage of you. He gives the impression that he is trustworthy and reliable, but in fact is either bad advisor, or he may be in a bad situation himself.  He is not somebody to be trusted. In personal relationships, this man is grudging, controlling, and even a bully. This card also can have another meaning; a setback in financial matters. If that is the case, the setback will not be earth shattering.
